DepEd releases online learning tools

The Department of Education (DepEd) has released an online learning tool to help teachers, as well as parents, to educate their children or student while at home amid the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the report, the Learning Management System (LMS) is a platform for virtual classes where teachers can conduct their lessons and monitor the performance of their students.

Aside from LMS, DepEd Commons was also released, a repository of Open Educational Resources (OERs); Electronic Self Learning Modules (e-SLMs); and other multimedia lecture episodes.

“Right now we have about 8 million subscribers wherein lessons, homework, quizzes are all in the DepEd commons and are even accessible to the parents,” DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said.

She added, “So we have instances of parents who are abroad and are monitoring their children can also go through the system and check how their children are performing.”

DepEd Commons and DepEd LMS can be accessed via smartphones, desktop computers, laptops, and tablets.

Teachers, learners, and parents must simply register their details to access the materials.
